raised to life

at Favor Church, we believe in water baptism as a symbol of our new life in Jesus!

Saying yes to Jesus is an inward decision—water baptism is a public declaration. Jesus himself was baptised in the Bible, so we do the same!

Baptism is a symbolic public declaration of your faith in Jesus! In the Bible, we see that Jesus himself was baptised (Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-23), and Jesus told his disciples to go into all the world and baptise people. During water baptism, you will be “dunked” or immersed under water, which symbolises you leaving behind your old life before Jesus. Then, as you come up out of the water, it symbolises your new life and freedom found in Jesus!

No! It is by believing in Jesus that we get to heaven (Romans 10:9). Baptism is simply a public symbol of your faith, but it is not required for your salvation. However, it’s a great next step, as modelled to us by Jesus—so if you have a relationship with Jesus, go for it!

If you have a relationship with Jesus and fully understand the decision you’re making, you are ready to be baptised! In the Bible, we see that people would often get baptised immediately (aka the same day) after accepting Jesus and beginning a relationship with him. If you feel nervous about getting baptised in front of a large group of people, that’s totally normal! Chances are, you will never feel fully “ready”. So, if you have a relationship with Jesus, you’re ready to go!

Can you? Yes, absolutely! Whether or not you “should” is between you and God. However, we believe that baptism should happen because of a personal decision to follow Jesus, and with proper understanding of the decision you are making. So, if you were previously baptised but didn’t fully make your own decision to do so, we’d encourage you to get baptised again!

Yes, that’s a great idea! Baptism is a symbolic declaration of the new life we’ve found in Jesus, so if you’ve been away from God for a while and now come back into a relationship with God, baptism is a great declaration of that!

No! We keep it nice and warm — don’t worry!
